TITLE: STAFF/CONTRACT PHYSICAL THERAPIST JOB SUMMARY: A skilled worker who implements treatment programs in accordance with written physician orders, performs initial evaluations, supervises subordinate personnel, assists in administrative tasks and provides leadership in the organization of the Physical Therapy Department. Duties
QUALIFICATIONS: Graduate of an approved college or university with a degree or certificate in Physical Therapy or if foreign graduate, determination that credentials are deemed equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in Physical Therapy in the United States. Physical Therapist Licensed in the State of Florida and current American Heart Association BLS certification. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Provides high standard quality patient care. 1:1 Knowledgeable in the use of the physical, chemical and other properties of air, electricity, exercise, massage, ultrasound and water 1:2 Knowledgeable in the use of tests for the determination of progress in the areas of muscle strength, joint range of motion and nerve muscle integrity 2. Interprets physician prescriptions and orders 2:1 Provides an initial assessment and is knowledgeable in developing appropriate treatment programs based on physician’s orders and including short and long term goals 2:2 Knowledgeable in identifying precautions, special problems and contraindications 2:3 Reassesses the patient in reference to goals and when necessary, adjusts the treatment program 2:4 Provides direct patient care and assumes responsibility for that care and that given by others under his/her direction 2:5 Physical Therapy care is carried out safely within the scope of practice 2:6 Delegates care to team members according to their capabilities and performance description 2:7 Collaborates with other members of the health care team in planning for patient discharge 3. Maintains accurate and timely patient records 3:1 Initial evaluation and treatment plan is completed for inpatients within 24 hours after physician’s order written, for outpatients within 48 hours of initial visit 3:2 Progress notes are written daily on inpatients, per visit on outpatients 3:3 Reassessments are written as needed and per current policy and standard of practice 4. Assists Director with administrative skills 4:1 Functions as departmental supervisor in the absence of Director. Ensures that communication and documentation is clear and reported to the Director upon their return 4:2 Assists with review and updating Policy and Procedure Manual annually 4:3 Assists Director with Quality Assurance and improvement as necessary 5. Monitors own continuing education needs and actively participates in in-service programs 5:1 Identifies and reports individual continuing education needs 5:2 Presents a minimum of two in-service lectures per year 6. Maintains patient confidentiality and dignity 6:1 Never communicates patient information to inappropriate sources 6:2 Allows for patient modesty during treatment 7. Actively supports the philosophy, goals and objectives of the Physical Therapy Department and Hospital. 7:1 Philosophy, goals and objectives are known and communicated to staff, patients, visitors and physicians appropriately and in a manner consistent with these goals 8. Maintains adequate supplies and equipment necessary for patient care, and reports any equipment problems to Director. 9.. Other duties as requested by Director.
