Job Description

TITLE:                         Medical Assistant/Nursing Assistant

SUPERVISOR:            Practice Manager

JOB RELATIONSHIPS:

A.        Responsible to the Practice Manager.

B.         Interrelationships with patients of the practice are essential.

C.        Interrelationships with all other staff of the practice are essential.

D.        Positive relationships with patients are expected.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS;

1.         Provides for the complete and accurate documentation of patient medical records for the office.

1:1       Acts as a. primary medical assistant for physician.

1:2       Answers the telephone, takes messages and directs calls when necessary.

1:3       Obtains patient histories, vital signs, weight, answers patient questions and explains procedures.

1:4       Assures that the confidentiality of patient information is consistently maintained.

1:5       Performs telephone triage of patient calls and records in charts.

1:6       Administers referrals as needed by managed care organizations and by physician.

2.         Work with others in the office in an effort to provide for the highest quality of medical care.

2:1       As directed by the physician, administers a wide variety of medical services to the patients of the practice.

2:2       Prepares company required reports as directed.

3.         Communicates clearly and effectively.

3:1       Communicates to the physicians and practice manager to

promote the smooth running of medical affairs.

3:2       Attends meetings as required.

3:3       Abides by all policies and procedures of the practice and takes responsibility for achieving and maintaining a good working knowledge of all such policies and procedures.

3:4       Communicates in a professional and caring manner, assuring positive practice in the community being served.

3:5       Communicates in a professional and productive manner with the Practice Manager.

4.         Assists the physician and any physician extenders in an effort

to be as productive and efficient as possible.

4:1       Sets up exam room and equipment ahead of time. Reviews next day schedule and prepares for any procedures that are planned or anticipated.

4:2       Cleans and prepares rooms between patients.

4:3       Observes patient for any unusual reactions or events.

4:4       Assists physicians and extenders with examinations, procedures and other processes related to direct patient care.

4:5       Arranges for patients’ ordered diagnostic and therapeutic services.

4:6       Provides health care instructions to patient and family members.

4:7       Performs basis nursing procedures as directed by the physician or physician extenders.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

High school education required. Technical college or junior college program, beyond high school graduate, required. Medical Assisting certification or Licensed Practical Nurse registration preferred.

Needs to be an experienced caregiver and have practical office training.

Management Experience Required

Excellent human relations and oral/written communications skills.

Experience consistent with generally accepted standards in the community.

Written skills for charting in the patient records, etc.  Deals with a variety of patient interactions.

Computer equipment.

General office equipment.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

Environmental Conditions

*Regularly exposed to the risk of blood borne disease

• Subject to many interruptions

• Occasionally subjected to long irregular hours.  Subject to the pressures of a busy office

JOB LOCATION:

Medical office location as directed.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Using the percentage range as listed:

1.         Standing:          Frequent.          Worker is on his/her feet

approximately 3 hours per day to perform job functions.

2.         Walking:           Frequent.          Worker is on his/her feet

approximately 3 hours per day to perform job functions.

3.         Sitting:  Continuous.      Worker is sitting in a chair

approximately 5 hours per day to perform job functions.

4.         Bend/Reach:     Occasional. Occasionally required to bend or

reach supplies and equipment while performing  job functions.

5. Communication skills (verbal, written, hearing): Continuous.

A. Worker must be able to verbally communicate in a clear

manner.

B. Hearing must be within normal range.

C. Worker must be able to express legible hand writing skills involving correct spelling of medical terms.

6.         Sight:    Continuous. Sight must be within normal range

for near and far vision and color perception.

7.         Handling/Manual

Dexterity: Frequent. Simple grasp and fine manipulation utilized for clinical equipment and patient hands-on diagnostics.

8.         Lifting/Carrying:            Worker is required to occasionally lift and

carry 11-24 pounds to complete job functions.
