Job Description
TITLE: Receptionist/Registration Clerk
SUPERVISOR: Practice Manager
JOB RELATIONSHIPS:
A. Responsible to the Practice Manager & Physicians Practice Director.
B. Supervises no other employees, assists as Financial Counselor, Cashier and Upfront Collections; business hours 9am-5:00pm.
C. Inter-relationships with patients, patient families, third party payers, registration staff, file clerks, billing clerks and other duties assigned by the Practice Manager.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1:1 Answers all incoming calls in a courteous and efficient manner.
1:2 Coordinates all answering service for off-duty hours.
1:3 Responds to incoming patient account telephone in
- Assists in patient accounts receivable activities
2:1 Calculates final bills for patients who are ready to leave the practice.
2:2 Collects patient-owed balances when due.
2:3 Registers new and existing patients into the Patient Information System.
2:4 Maintains the change fund and reconciles the balance per financial policy and procedure.
2:5 Advises patient or guarantor of third party payer benefits and estimated private payer amount. Collects partial payment prior to admission in accordance with practice policy.
2:6 Explains financial requirements to the patient or responsible party and collects deposits or deductibles as required.
3:1 Maintains required records, reports and statistics as directed.
3:2 Maintains an orderly work area.
3:3 Maintains confidentiality of all patient information.
3:4 Requests and orders supplies as necessary to keep an adequate inventory of materials on hand for practice operations.
4:1 Communicates information to the Practice Manager, practice physicians, etc. to promote the smooth running of practice affairs.
4:2 Attends mandatory and other educational conferences that are job related.
5:1 Schedules appointments over the phone and in person using a computerized scheduler.
5:2 Coordinates a steady flow of patients from the waiting area to the examination and treatment area, preventing patients from waiting needlessly.
5:3 Prepares and posts appointment schedules for all to see. Schedules and works in patients per the published scheduling parameters.
6. Maintains professional appearance at all times.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
High School education or equivalent
Experience:
One-to-two years in the medical field in clerical position.
Management experience required.
Excellent human relations and oral/written communication skills.
Experience in coordinating communications at a busy medical practice.
Administrative Skills:
Answers telephone; Composes letters; Filing systems; Coordinates physician office patient flow
General Office Skills:
Conformance to and refinement of office procedures; Establishes and maintains filing systems.
