New MRI Offers More to Patients

New MRI Offers More to Patients

So your doctor has ordered an MRI.  Fishermen’s Hospital’s new 1.5 Tesla, high-field magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system combines comfort as well as state of the art technology.

The patient-friendly design doesn’t compromise the quality of the images. A product of General Electric, the MRI features a bore opening of more than two feet in diameter and almost one foot of free space between a patient’s head and the magnet. The MRI also features the shortest 1.5 Tesla magnet available and the flared design gives an open-feel that is less confining. The magnet is approximately four feet in length and allows more than 60 percent of exams to be completed with the patient’s head outside the bore.

Offering the service at Fishermen’s means patients do not have to travel to get high-quality imaging. The increased efficiency of the new MRI reduces the time required to obtain images, which will improve patient comfort.  This technological enhancement will allow Fishermen’s to accommodate more patients and provide timely appointments so they don’t have to wait to get the answers needed for prompt diagnosis and treatment.

“Some patients can present special challenges when undergoing MRI testing,” said Hugo. “Now, even those who are the most difficult to examine with conventional MRI approaches can be easily imaged and diagnosed.”

Magnetic resonance provides images that are essential in the diagnosis and treatment planning of many conditions, including those related to the heart and vascular system as well as for diseases such as cancer and diabetes. The 1.5 Tesla MRI provides physical comfort while maintaining image confidence.
